Asian Handicap Help

Asian Handicap - What is it?

Asian Handicap (also known as Hang Cheng) eliminates the possibility of a draw in a soccer game. This means that either the home side or the away side is a winner on your soccer bet. Each team is given a handicap by the bookmaker, which is supposed to balance them so that an equal number of betters will bet each side.

Example:
Let's say Milan play Juventus at San Siro

The handicap is:

Home team Away team Odds home Handicap Odds away
Milan Juventus

2.00

0 : 1/2

1.85

This can be read like: "Milan giving 1/2 ball to Juventus"
Said in another way: Juventus have a "a half goal" (ball) advantage when the match starts.

Bet on Milan:
If Milan win the game you will win stake x 2,00 (odds), otherwise you will lose.

Bet on Juventus:
If the game ends in a tie or Juventus win you will win stake x 1,85 (odds)

Let's make another example:
Arsenal play Leeds at Highbury

The handicap is:
Home team Away team Odds home Handicap Odds away
Arsenal Leeds

1.925

0 : 3/4

1.975

1/4, 3/4, 1 1/4 etc. asian handicaps bring new rules into the game
This can be read like: "Arsenal giving 3/4 ball to Leeds". It can also be known as 1/2, 1 ball ("half, one ball")

Bet on Arsenal:
If Arsenal win the game by two goals or more you will win full stake x 1,925 (odds)
If Arsenal win the game by one goal you will win half your stake: 1,925 (odds) x 0.5 x stake.

Bet on Leeds:
If the game ends in a tie or Leeds win, you will win stake x 1,975 (odds)
If Arsenal win the game by one goal you will lose half your stake: 1.975(odds) x 0.5.

We will make a third example:

Barcelona play Real Madrid at Nou Camp

The handicap is:
Home team Away team Odds home Handicap Odds away
Barcelona Real Madrid

1.925

0 : 1

1.975

This can be read like: "Barcelona giving 1 ball to Real Madrid"

Bet on Barcelona:
If Barcelona win the game by two goals or more you will win stake x 1,925 (odds)
If Barcelona win the game by one goal you will get your stake back

Bet on Real Madrid:
If the game ends in a tie or Real Madrid win you will win stake x 1,975 (odds)
If Barcelona win the game by one goal you will get your stake back.

Result calculation:
The table shows how many percentage you will win/lose. "No bet" means
that your stake will be refunded.

Asian Handicap vs Fixed Odds
The advantages of the two different ways to bet on a soccer match:

Asian Handicap
- Eliminate the possibility of a draw.
- You get high prices on favourites.
- If a quarter handicap match ends in a draw, you only lose 50% of your stake.
- Good fun when following a match live - one single goal is likely to change everything.
- When playing multiple betting the number of outcomes are reduced from 27 (3x3x3) to only 8 (2x2x2).

Fixed Odds
- A very high number of bookmakers to choose from.
- Bankers. It is possible to bet on "secure" games, which might be suitable for an accumulator.
- Bigger odds on outsiders.
- Much easier to find value bets. You only need home-draw-away estimations, in Asian Handicap it is required that you are able to predict exact results.
